What the service does

What I Already Own lets you catalogue a personal collection of records and books, by scanning barcodes or searching a reference catalogue, and follow its value based on prices reported by the people who use it.

The service is intended for individuals, for personal use. It is neither a marketplace, nor an appraisal service, nor a sales intermediary: no transaction between users is possible.

Your account

Creating an account requires a valid email address. There is no password: you receive a single-use code at each sign-in, and may then register a passkey on your device.

You are responsible for access to your mailbox and your devices, since they are what open your account. Tell us if you notice access you did not authorise.

An account is personal. The service is not intended for people under fifteen.

What you add

Your items, notes, condition ratings and photographs remain yours. They are visible only to you, and we do not publish them.

Two explicit exceptions. When you submit an item the catalogue does not know, the record you enter and the photograph you attach are meant to be published in the catalogue after review: by sending them, you agree that they may be contributed to it and reused freely, including commercially. When you report a price, it joins the catalogue's price records under the conditions set out below.

You warrant that what you send does not infringe the rights of a third party, in particular for photographs. We promptly remove any content reported to us as infringing.

The prices you report

Reporting a purchase or sale price is optional, and the service works without it.

When you report one, it is recorded as a market observation: the amount, its currency, its date, the condition of the item and the edition concerned. The amount is converted into euros at the European Central Bank reference rate for the day of the observation.

That observation carries neither your name, nor your email address, nor your account identifier. It carries a fingerprint derived from your account and the edition concerned, used only to avoid counting the same person twice in the same average. That fingerprint does not allow your observations on different editions to be linked together, nor traced back to you.

These observations are used to compute values shown to everyone using the service, including on the catalogue's public pages.

If you delete your account, your observations are removed from the records.

What the displayed value is, and is not

A value is shown only once enough observations exist for the same edition. It is the median of observations collected over a rolling period, and that number of observations is always displayed alongside the amount.

These amounts are self-reported market observations, nothing more. They are not an appraisal, an insurance valuation, a probate valuation or investment advice, and they commit no one as to the price at which an item could actually be sold or replaced.

They must not be produced as proof of value to an insurer, a notary, an administration or a buyer. Insurance and probate valuations are the work of a qualified professional who examines the item.

The exports the service offers reproduce what you reported yourself; they issue no certificate of value.

The catalogue and its sources

The catalogue is built from open databases whose licences and extraction dates are listed on the service's sources page. This data contains errors, gaps and duplicates, which we correct as we go without guaranteeing the accuracy of any given record.

Cover images come from open sources; if you hold rights to an image and want it removed, write to us and we will remove it.

The subscription and the free trial

The public catalogue is free to browse. The app, to catalogue a collection, is offered by subscription: €3.95 a month or €39.95 a year, all taxes included, for the whole service (records and books, on phone and computer).

A first subscription starts with a seven-day free trial. Your payment details are requested when the trial starts; nothing is charged during those seven days, and the subscription starts automatically when they end, at the plan you chose, unless you cancel before the trial ends. The trial is offered once per account.

The subscription renews automatically at each monthly or yearly term, and can be cancelled at any time from the settings, taking effect at the end of the current period. Without a subscription, your collection remains viewable and exportable, but you can no longer add items to it.

Payment is collected by Stripe, under the Link brand, acting as merchant of record, whose terms apply in addition to these for the transaction itself, including the right of withdrawal.

Availability

The service is provided as is, with no guarantee of continuous availability. It may be interrupted for maintenance, updates, or because of a provider's failure.

We work to preserve your data and keep backups, without being able to guarantee against loss. Exporting your collection is available at any time: we recommend keeping a copy.

Liability

We are liable for direct damage resulting from our own failure, under the conditions provided by applicable law. Nothing here limits the rights the law grants to consumers.

We are not liable for decisions you make on the strength of a displayed value, for the accuracy of data from open sources, or for the consequences of using the service contrary to these terms.

Ending your account

You may delete your account at any time from the settings. Deletion is immediate and final: your collection, photographs, settings and price observations are erased. Technical backups still in rotation disappear after forty-eight hours.

We may suspend or close an account that harms the service or the rights of a third party, after informing you except in an emergency.

Ownership

The service, its name, interface and code remain the property of the publisher. Catalogue data remains subject to the licences of its sources, listed on the sources page.

Changes to these terms

These terms carry a version and a date. In the event of a substantial change, in particular regarding what becomes of reported prices, you will be informed before it takes effect, and the version accepted when your account was created remains available.

Governing law and complaints

These terms are governed by French law. For any complaint, write to us first: we answer every message.

Failing agreement, a consumer residing in the European Union may bring proceedings before the court of their place of residence, and may use a consumer mediator.
